Locate the Grain
The Future Has a Past.
Sorites Research investigates how incremental changes transform industries, economies and the value of existing businesses. Our name comes from the Sorites paradox: when do individual grains become a heap?
A research process that can change direction
Begin with a structural question. Follow its consequences through industries and physical constraints. Investigate the businesses that may benefit or suffer. Adapt, reverse or abandon the thesis when the evidence changes.
Investment ideas emerge from that investigation; they do not need to exist before it begins. We separate a promising industry from an attractively priced security, publish the strongest opposing explanation, and state what would change our minds.
The aim is to Locate the Grain: the accumulating evidence that changes the economic identity of an ordinary business. Original publications remain available, while corrections and outcomes receive their own dates.
Independent, founder-led research
